C. Phillip Powell is a native of San Francisco, CA. Since the age of fourteen Phillip served the city of San Francisco as an activist and had a large impact in politics and government. He has served in many capacities including: numerous Mayoral advisory committees, youth commissioner, and an arbitrator. Currently, he serves on several non-profit board of directors. In recognition of Mr. Powell’s years of service and dedication to the city of San Francisco, he has received several honors by organizations, businesses, Board of Supervisors, and former Mayor Willie Brown. One of which was a certificate of honor for special and invaluable service to the city of San Francisco by the United States Congress.

Phillip is a Magna Cum Laude honors graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, TN wherein he received a B.A. in Psychology, Religion, and Philosophy. Mr. Powell has also furthered his studies and holds certificates from the University of Memphis in Tennessee – Cecil Humphrey Law School; Stanford University; California State University, and abroad at Estudio Sampere in Salamanca, Spain. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration at the University of San Francisco.

Most recently, Mr. Powell managed an extensive six figure scholarship program, the Achievers Awards Scholars Program at Meritus College Foundation in San Francisco where he served as Program Director. Mr. Powell joined the Emery Education Foundation as Program Manager in 2008. On December 1, 2010 Mr. Powell was promoted to Assistant Executive Director, per his dedication, commitment and results. Effective January 2, 2012 Mr. Powell was appointed Interim Executive Director of the Emery Ed Fund.
